Sometimes you do not want the video at all, just what you hear in it. A voice, a song, a laugh, a line of dialogue. Converting a TikTok video to audio means keeping that sound and leaving the picture behind. This page shows how to do it from a link, and what to do if you only have a video file on your phone.

The quickest way: from a link

If the video is still public on TikTok, you do not need to download it first. Paste its link into the box above and press Convert to MP3. The tool takes the audio out of the video and gives you the MP3. The steps are the same as on the TikTok to MP3 page, and you never handle a video file at all.

If you already have the video file

You may have saved a video to your gallery long ago, or you may have recorded one yourself. This converter reads links rather than uploaded files, so you have two straightforward options:

  • Re-share it from TikTok. If the video is still online and public, use its link as above.
  • Use an app on your device. Free editors like CapCut, VLC and the built-in tools on many phones can export just the audio of a video. Look for "extract audio", "export as audio" or "convert to MP3".

We do not host an upload tool, and we would rather be clear than suggest otherwise. Keeping the service to links makes it faster and avoids storing your files.

What the MP3 contains

Everything audible in the clip: speech, music, sound effects and background noise. If a creator layered a song under their voice, both are in the file, and if the video is silent, so is the MP3. A fifteen-second clip gives a fifteen-second file, and longer videos give longer files with a slightly longer wait.

Longer videos and other limits

TikTok videos can now run several minutes. Longer clips mean bigger files, but the process is the same. Videos marked age restricted, or visible only to followers, cannot be fetched. Live replays and Stories vary, since many expire or are not public. Where a link will not convert, the checks on the page about links usually find the reason.

Free apps that extract audio from a file

Which tool fits depends on what you already have.

  • VLC (Windows, Mac, Linux). Open the video, choose Convert or Save, pick an audio profile and save. It is slow to find the first time and then very reliable.
  • CapCut. Import the video, select the clip and use the option to extract audio. It suits you if you will edit the sound afterwards.
  • A phone's built-in editor. Some Android phones can export only the sound from the gallery. Look for "extract audio" or "save as audio".
  • ffmpeg. For people comfortable with a command line, it converts a video to MP3 in one line and works on whole folders.

None of these need an account, and all of them work offline.

Why MP3 and not another format

MP3 plays on everything: old car stereos, every phone, every editor. Other formats such as AAC or WAV have their own strengths, but they trade away that universal support, and TikTok's audio starts out compressed in any case, so a larger format would add file size and no detail.

Editing what you extract

Once you have the MP3, small edits make it more useful. Trim silence from the start and end, normalise the volume so it matches your other files, and add a short fade out so a looped clip does not click. Free editors such as Audacity do all three in a minute, and the changes never touch the original video.

A note on the original file

If you recorded the video yourself, the best audio is still in the original file on your phone, not the copy that went through TikTok. Extract from that file whenever you can. The version TikTok serves has been compressed once already, and pulling sound from it adds nothing back.

Long clips and short clips

Very short clips, under five seconds, convert fine but can feel abrupt when looped. Clips close to the longest TikTok length produce files of several megabytes, which is still small. If you only want part of a long clip, convert the whole thing once and trim it afterwards in a free editor, so you can choose the cut by ear rather than by guesswork.

A note on lyrics and speech

Spoken clips are often easier to reuse than music, since there is no melody to clash with another track. If a clip mixes speech over a song, you will get both in the same file, because the converter does not separate voices from music. Plan for that when you pick something for a ringtone or an intro.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upload a video file to extract its audio?

Not here. The converter works from public TikTok links. For a file on your device, use VLC, CapCut or a similar app.

Does the MP3 include every sound in the video?

Yes. Music, voices and background noise are all in the file.

Does converting remove the video from TikTok?

No. Your conversion does not change or remove anything on TikTok.
